i live in a suburb just north of dallas (plano). i am not sure if dallas
gets it's water from the same lake but the water out of the tap at my place
is around Ph 7.6, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates (at least per my aquarium store
testing kit). per the test strip, the buffer and hardness are in the
moderate to high range.
one thing about this summer (and last summer), the lakes are very low and i
believe additional chemicals are being added to offset some algae blooms.
I use a 3 stage modified R/O filter (sediment plus 2 carbon block - i bypass
the R/O - i can't stand the thought of wasting all that water) that i run my
water through before it goes in the tank. i still use the recommended dose
of dechlorinator; plus a bit of aqua salt for my livebearer tank, bit of
baking soda / epson salt for my african tank, and straight filtered water
for my angels / tetra tank. must be ok, quite a bit of breeding going on
in all tanks.
gw.
