german blue rams? m 04-17-2005

I went with my friend to some LFS that we'd never been to the other
day because he wanted to get some stuff for his tank, and I ended up
stumbling across a tank full of VERY colorfull german blue rams that
were about 1.25 inches long. It was written on the tank that they were
from a local breeder, which from what I've heard online is a good
thing.
Best thing is, that they're only $4 canadian each... other fish stores
in the area usually charge closer to 20.
Well, maybe that's not the best thing... the REAL best thing is that
I've got a mature 10g tank that is currently only occupied by a small
school of glowlight tetras.

So here are my questions.
1. A 10g tank would be fine right? I had a long-finned blue ram in
there for quite some time until he got ich from a bad batch of neon
tetras and he seemed very happy.

2. Could I get 2? The colors on some of them at the store were
amazing, and from watching them it looked like they were trying to
show off to the opposite sex. Would their colors be as good if I just
had 1?

3. How is the german variety different from the normal kind? My
understanding is that they're just a bit more colorfull.

Anything else I should know?

Thanks

Should be fine.

Try 3. If you're lucky a breeding pair will form and the 3rd fish will act
as a target fish, strengthening the bond between the mated pair. This will
also take some pressure off the female as most of the aggression will be
towards the target fish.

I think the German Ram is the original Ram minus all the fancy fins, colours
etc. 'Breeding'.

They like softer water, loads of plants. Provide some smooth flat stones for
them to spawn on. A little higher than usual temps. Thats all I can think of
for now. HTH.
