Higher is better just in case the check valve fails.....
<<>>I have just bought an air pump (Sera 110) was wondering how important
<<>>the siting of it was. There are lots of don't site it here on the
<<>>instuctions ( http://www.sidtech.co.uk/iu/soup74240143411.jpg ). I can
<<>>see the ones where you don't site it directly above/below the aquarium
<<>>and not to site it on a sloping shelf but there are also instructions to
<<>>not site it so it pumps air up the airline and then under the water
<<>>indeed the only place you can site it is slightly above water level but
<<>>a distance to the side. Best place for us is the pump at the bottom
<<>>level of the tank then the air line running up to the tank top then down
<<>>again under the water, the air line goes slightly above the level of the
<<>>tank to avoid siphoning if the pump fails, it also has a one way valve
<<>>in the air line so water shouldn't be able to flow back down the line.
