Lady has a large backyard pond. Looking at the temp requirements for this
fish, I dont see how it could survive even in our climate (Central
Mississippi). Opinions?

If you lived down on the coast I'd say give it a try. I wouldn't try it more
than 70 miles from the moderating influence of the Gulf of Mexico. Lots of
folks keep pl*cos in ponds in Houston and most winters they do fine,
particularly in deeper ponds that don't have such quick temperature swings.
Still, a late winter cold snap usually does them in after a couple of good
years.

I have seen foot long pl*cos in Bray's bayou, but I'm not sure whether they
were recently released or had lived there for many seasons.

Feral tropical fish are pretty common here.
