I'm guessing you had enough light in the area near the tank so that
you could see them, and they either awoke fully or weren't completely
asleep.
If you had it pitch dark in the room, and they were fully asleep, you
wouldn't have been able to see them to catch.

I'm guessing you had enough light in the area near the tank so that
you could see them, and they either awoke fully or weren't completely
asleep.
If you had it pitch dark in the room, and they were fully asleep, you
wouldn't have been able to see them to catch.

I had a very dim night light. There was just enough light to make them out.
I always left a dim light on were I kept my tanks. Still do. Even if it
was pitch dark I would think they'd feel the vibrations of something
approaching and would flee.... then again, maybe not.

I got up one morning to find snails had captured an angelfish....somehow one
got a fin and others piled on. And it was not sick.

They are predatory and nasty. I am not sure fry could sense something wrong
(vibration).
