Hi everyone!
I was just wondering if it is normal for an apple snail to not be able to
float. Also, is it normal for them to get to the top of the tank and then
let themselves go till they get to the bottom, and then keep on going on the
usual business? My snail also prefers goldfish flake to anything green...

They float if they want to, which is quite rarely if they're happy and
healthy, by regulating the amount of air under the shell.

Yep. Easiest way down, you know. If you look you'll see that they
regulate the rate of descent by releasing air if they think they sink
too slowly, and that they check progress by having their antennae
extended (and they don't retract them even though they bump in to
things on the way down).

Most animals, even cows, will go for high protein over high fiber, if
given a choice.

Sounds normal to me. My Apples do the same exact things.

Mine does this (floating) on occassion - mainly when I got it.

What it does do all the time is diving - up to the top and then a sucker
release and dive to the bottom ;) It's very funny and I wait for it to do
it. Mine also likes sliding off leaves high up and diving to the bottom -
usually with foot out - like a flying fox/parachute - very funny to watch.

Even if mine is on the far side of the tank, it somehow knows it's feeding
time and it's almost always the first thing on any sinking pellets or discs
I put in. I don't know how it knows because I thought their eyes weren't
that good, but it's there fighting with the fish for a disk - very time ;)
