Hello, about to get my 'bargain' filter up and running and figure that
I will need a sponge over the intake so the little man doesn't get
sucked up there. What kind of sponges do people use and where do you
get them from?

Have been doing very frequent water changes and vacuuming of the bottom
and gravel up until now.

Thanks
Mellie

I use sponge filters made for that purpose in my fry tank, I'd get a
sponge made for aquarium filter use rather than anything made for use
outside the aquarium. I am concerned about what chemicals might be
added to kitchen products.

This is a sample of what I use:

I get the Aquaclear sponges at either Superpets or PetsMart. Or I order
them from my Aquarium catalogs.

I use Aquaclear sponges too. In fact, I use them for anything where I
want an open cell sponge because they are reasonably priced and come in
a wide variety of sizes.

I found a sponge filter at my local pet store but
not at Petsmart. I didn't check Petco since it
isn't close to where I live.

www.drsfostersmith.com has a good selection
of sponge filters - different sizes - if you can't find
any locally. I buy aquarium, cat, and pond stuff
from them and have found their service excellent.
