Do you have sand substrate which is being stirred up by the critters in
the tank and clogging it? When you turn off the filter, for servicing,
is there a "back flush of crud" which is being spewed from the filter
back into the tank, and the cleaned filter sucks this up? Are you
washing out the filter pads sufficiently?

???

Regards,
JS

Washing out the filter pads sufficiently on a 2 week old tank?
I would have to wonder what they're washing out after only 2 weeks of
running.
A brand new set up *should* only have a couple small fish in it (if
using fish to cycle the tank - and there are better methods these days
to cycle without fish), so there shouldn't be enough gunk on the
filter media to be washing off after only 2 weeks.

Why are you cleaning out the filter (what type are we talking about)
when the tank's only been running for 2 weeks now?
What size tank is this?
What type of fish are in it and how many of each.
Type of filter.

In order to better help you, we need this missing information.
