Hello, just did my monthly filter clean. Boy, are goldfish dirty
buggers. The sponges were disgusting. Anyway, rinsed them in some
tank water and removed some charcoal that was in there. (ashamed to
say for about 6 weeks). Anyway, I put it all back together. Topped it
up with some tank water so I don't have to use the primer (Fluval 404).
When it started back up it released a long cloud of misty water. The
last time it released lots of 'crap'. This time just an off white
coloured water. The tank is now really cloudy. Fish don't seem too
bothered except the excitement of some debris floating around.

Is this ok? Should i put off going to bed until i know everything is
ok?

Not had this one happen before.

Cheers in advance
Mellie

Nothing like being a paranoid clown that does not have a clue is it
Mellie? May be y need to set up and keep an eye out on your goldfish
just to make sure one does not get sick, maybe even take off a week or
two of work just to make sure......

I witness the very same thing at times...I have a tank in its 20th day of
cycling. The cloudiness has just cleared up. I often turn off the power
filter while I feed the bettas...after about 10 minutes, I turn it back on.
Then this ghostly white 'muk' comes flowing out of the filter, I don't have
a clue what it is...I've examined the mesh filters..all appears fine
considering they're still relatively new. Will someone take time to explain
this to Mellie and me. Thanks big-time...-ED

=========================
It's fine particles in the water that become displaced or dislodged when a
filter is shut off, then turned on again. Some of the 'stuff' that was
trapped in the filter is pushed out back into the tank.

That post was obviously not from Koi-Lo.

I don't think there is anything to worry about Mellie. I'm not sure what
causes that mist, but it usually clears up quickly and doesn't seem to
cause any harm. Just don't leave the canister filter off too long, or it
will go anaerobic, and this can be toxic.
