I have a 2ft Juwel Rekord 70 (70l) tank which uses the inbuilt
filter it came with. In this tank I have a visually impaired angel
fish, a bristlenose pleco, and lots of tiny tetras. Never had a
problem with ammonia/nitrites in this tank despite sometimes
overstocking in the past, and it has been fine in power cuts up
to 12 hours long, because the filter media has remained in water
which still had some oxygen in it. I would be very confident to
buy a Juwel tank again and to use its inbuilt filter. I use cheap
generic floss rather than their floss sponges though - and I dont
probably replace the other sponges as often as they recommend.
I have a 4ft (200l) tank which has the Fluval 204 I was given
with it, I added a Fluval 3+ internal as well. The 204 is on its
last legs and I haven't been impressed so I am going to replace it
with an Eheim, dunno which model but I want to overfilter. Then
again I am lazy on my maintenance, and I have catfish and cichlids.
The internal fluval needs frequent cleaning but this only takes 2
minutes, and the external one is always getting its tubes blocked
and running slow, and quickly goes anaerobic in power cuts.
I have a 2.5 ft tank which is half full and has a tiny box filter
in it. It's for axolotls. It does the job and gets cleaned about
once every six months.
Hope that helps you?
