Best for the industry or best for your fishes? In the former case, there
are a lot of options. In the latter, use a matt filter: effective,
cheap, low maintainance and will survive power outages better than any
other type of filter. And because it is in the tank, you don't have to
worry about breaking pipes or connectors. Main disadvantage: Because
they are so cheap, industry doesn't supply them and you have to build
them yourself. Another disadvantage used to be that they could be
mounted only in the empty, dry tank. However, the April edition of
Aquarium-Magazin (download from www.aquariummagazin.de) describes a
construction that can be introduced in a running tank to replace a
filter.
