Sorry, had forgotten that you have several other small tanks. Personally
I would ask in the LFS what kind of fish is trendy, difficult to get and
expensive. The most fish are too cheap.
In Germany colourful invertebrates like dwarf shrimps and dwarf crayfish
are very trendy. A good 1" crystal red shrimp for example costs 5+ Euro
in the LFS and a 1.7" couple of Mexican dwarf orange crayfish costs
20-30+ Euro and more. But I really don't know how the invertebrate
demand and price situation in the U.S. is.
HTH.
Very similar. I was thrilled to get 10 cherry red shrimp for $20 in an
auction because they're usually $3.99 each at fish store. Another thing
that's valuable is Christmas moss. Mosses don't require much light so if
you can find some to get started, you can make some cash from them.

Now there's a viable idea for a way for me to make some money. I wonder
if there is a market for water hyacinths? The canals here have them
growing by the bunches.

There is a great market for water hyacinth since they're so hard to keep
over the winter outside the tropical areas of the US. We pay $2.75 each for
them every spring. Get on Ebay and start selling them..........
