Yes some woods can be toxic to fish.. Mahogony is toxic to some fish
but not others. Stay away from pressure treated woods. Why not use a
piece of larger diameter PVC pipe (4" or 6" diam stuff) it wil not
hurt the fish one bit, and soon becomes green from algae. You can also
use clay or terracota flower pots laid on their sides. Check around
construction sites inthe dumpsters etc as a lot of times they toss out
lots of small lengths that are perfectly suited for such use as
shelters for fish etc. You can also buy small plastic orPVC milk
crate type containers for under a buck or so in stores like Wal MArt
or Big Lots that work fine for this use as well.
