If this is so, then what do I need to look for?
I've had my pleco in the goldfish tank for longer than I can remember. He
stays to himself, and the goldfish as well stay away from him. All he
really does is stick to the glass or the large rocks and often hides for
days and days at a time.
I've never once had a problem with it in with goldfish.

I've heard that if the pleco is properly fed it will never hurt your GF. I
have also heard that it is not uncommon to suddenly find a big sucker mark
on the side of your GF if there is a pleco in the tank.

So there ya go - it depends on who you ask, I think.

Hm. Thanks.
He must be fed just fine, then. I've never had a problem with it, and never
once have I noticed a sucker mark. A pleco this size would DEFINITELY do
some damage, though, and it's not small enough that it could be missed.
Thanks!

FWIW, the people who proffered the "properly fed" theory are pretty well
respected in the Usenet world of fish care. I think they suggested algae
wafers.

I have small catfish in with goldfish.
My tank is heated but catfish could probably survive w/o heat.
