Hi: Can someone guide me as to the size chiller I would need for a 180
Gal.tank. On cooler days its not bad but when it gets sticky and the 750W MH
on it gets up around 81 and may still climb when I have a longer photo
period. Thanks in advance for the help.
Bill

Sniff Sniff ...do I smell sarcasm. I work in the HVAC field and a 1/5hp
should be good for that size, but with a 750W.?! You need to be cooling
the light as much as possible and the laminar flow across the water
should pull down the top water temp quite a bit assuming you have 16W
or better fans. A suggestion is to run you lighting cycles shorter in
the summer and longer in the winter to avoid mid afternoon heat
attributing to your tank temp. I have even seen some people offset
there peak lighting to the early morning. Also an exhaust fan in your
sump where the water falls into your sump will help drive down temp
without running a chiller. Chillers are not cheap, not quite, and
comsume quite a bit of juice. This is a piece of equipment where you
get what you pay for so dont cheap out if you really need it!

Thanks for the info Sandbag, I have a fan in the sump and that works good
for now but we had a couple of days that were warm here in KS in April and I
don't like the fluctuation. Also think it might be a trade off with the
house thermostat and I am planning on plumbing it to the garage so the noise
is nill. Thanks again.Bill
