I just finished building my custom sump setup for my tank and with the
added room I had underneath I decided to add both a refug. and a coral
prop zone. For my last birthday my wife bought me a 175W Metal Hailide
ballast kit and a generic bulb (which I plan to replace). My main
question is what brand/color temp would be recommended by others who
may have similar setups. I plan on mounting the single lamp above the
two sections of the sump, so something that will help the coral grow
and flourish and also the organics in the refug would be necessary.
Any ideas, please post.

Thank You,

Louis J. Landerman

What would be the benefits of this over the 14k (15k) or 20k models? I
understand the concept of a deeper water feel with the higher, but what
are the spectrum needs for what I would like? Would a more daylight
spectrum (10k) profit my growth more than a deep water (20k) spectrum
or something as a mix (14k)?

10k has a more natural look, not so blue, just a bluish
white. Also the higher kelvin mh bulbs will darken up
faster. You will not get any faster growth by using a
higher kelvin mh bulb.
