It's off topic, but It's worth a shot I guess :-)

My Mother's pool has what looks like algae all over the vinyl liner.
I tried over the weekend to brush it off, but no go. It sat for a few weeks
after Hurricane Ivan then the neighbor has been "taking care" of the pool.
(she buys his supplies for him looking after her's) I don't think the guy
has a clue and it's probably time I took it over and get it squared away.

I know it has to be a hell of alot easier that keeping the chemical balance
in a reef tank. LOL So I just have to learn the parameters and what is
needed
to be monitored. I'm guessing Ph, Chorine, and I think I heard CAL/Hardness
is also monitored.

But I got to get the liner cleaned first, it looks terrible at the moment.
The liner is only 2 seasons old. (Vinyl liner over original Gunnite)

Any ideas on how to scrub what looks like algae off the liner?

Contact a pool supply store to get the answer. It sounds
like you need more chlorine to kill it off.

Now Marc.............
I figured going to a pool store would be equivalent to going to a LFS.

hehehehehehehe

I'll do a little research and some more Googling then to the pool store :-)

Got this off my Vette NG. Sounds logical..

Ric, my brother is a pool man. he says there is a product called
"black swim tream" (spelling???) that some people have used or take
your shock powder and put it in a white sock with the end taped up
tight, attach that to a pole and gently scrub the algae off, he says
you have to be careful with the shock because it could bleach out the
liner. Greg

Look for a 2 pound container of " yellow out ". Last summer I had a problem
where my pool was a VERY DARK Green color. The yellow out is a powder that
you use 1 capful per 10,000 gallons. Try that but you also have to add
allot of chlorine then run the filter all night. You should see a
difference in like a day or two.

Good Luck
Frank
