For all you clever people out there.... Have any of you ever tried
making a peltier pump cooler for your tank? If so how did it go?

I'm making one today from some bits I have lying around... It works ok
on the bench...

Any thoughts?

Dan

thermodynamics. it's a good idea, not only a law.

figure out what amount of heat it will move, and then figure out what amount
of heat is in your tank.

What are you using for a heat exchanger?
I have some peltier junctions around too, but titanium and stainless steel
tubing are expensive.

I had thought of sandwiching a length of s curved titanium tubing between to
thick copper plates, then loading the airspace full of silver thermal
grease. I would have then made a simple coil exchanger to put in the sump
and pumped fluid through the system..

I was given a purpose made ( I have GREAT friends ) Stainless steel
heat exchanger. Consisting of 2 plates (6 inch square) welded into a
thin box with stainless tubing lattice inside.

I built it with 2 peltiers, one 60w running on 12v, the other 40w
running on 5v, both powered by a 230w computer power supply. This is
sandwhiched between 3 5mm copper plates with the hot side clamped to a
aluminium heatsink cooled by a 6 inch computer fan...

How does that sound? still haven't had time to tank test yet...
