If she doesn't like fish then I can see that you have a problem here. What
fish do you currently keep? Do you ever drag her around your LFS to show her
the diversity?

In my household:-

Hubbie listens patiently when I talk fish, gets scared everytime I identify
a potential space in the house, helps out with filter problems and has been
known to algae scrape....oh and had traumas when I set up a third tank in
the kitchen for QT (number 7 tank) - lol - it's going back in its box
tomorrow - afterall I do actually need a QT/hospital tank - but wouldn't it
just look great filled with tetras <grin>

Older son says he "doesn't see the point of fish" but then periodically will
ask about getting a Black Moor Goldfish.....still resisting as I know who
will end up looking after it....

Next child (son) has a 30 gall in his bedroom - he used to have a 15 gall as
well but I have comandeered it - afterall who really looks after the 30g????

Daughter (youngest) would love a tank but as she is only 4 I know for
certain who would be looking after it - lol. She loves Clown Loaches and
will sit watching the fish....she is also rather keen on feeding the fish
but knows that she can only do it with me....however her habit of feeding
the Mbunas one Spirulina stick at a time caused all sorts of infighting in
the tank - quickly put a stop to that one....

If the fear is a credit card spree then maybe you should double the budget
for the tank - half for the tank and half for the spending spree - :-)

Will you marry me? ;-)

.....She did seem quite keen many years ago, but I wonder if her idea
of what I was about to purchase was a marine set up with a few large
highly coloured fish and coral, but I was imagining a freshwater
community tank with scissortails, danios and tetras, mainly because I
know nothing about maintaining salt levels.

Actually, I fell in love with tiger barbs (in quantity) and so tend to
have any other fish that will put up with them. She probably doesn't
have the heart to tell me that my aquarium idea was a disappointment.
We have been to the suppliers but she usually finds other things to
look at and rarely bothers with looking at what is on offer, although
she did see a tank full of guppies many years back and told me they
were hideous - so I dont buy those.
