Please log in for more thread options I added a male ancistrus to my tank already containing a female, and yes,
they have fallen for each other and there is a nice pile of yellow eggs.
I'm not sure they are looking after them too well though as they are at the
front of the tank and not hidden at all. Mrs seems to guard them most, but
Mr has overcome his shyness to sit near them occasionally. She has never
been shy and comes out to greet me at times!
Anything I should do?
How long till they hatch (if they do)? If they do not hatch what should I
do?
All advice welcome, thanks
Julie

It's typical Ancistrus behaviour, female does most of the work, shy
male eats and sleeps:)
Eggs hatch in 4 to 6 days depending on the temperature.
You'll have more success if she can lay the eggs in a cave.

Well she is moving the eggs around several times a day....but I reckon they
have been there fornearly a week....at 76.5 temp so looks unlikely that they
will produce this time....Oh well this was a first go!
They seem to "like"each other so may try again!!

Please log in for more thread options Hi Julie. My Ancistrus have spawned about 6 times in 18 months in a 30
gallon community tank with tetras and corydorus. The eggs are laid on
bogwood. They take 11 to 14 days to hatch and the male fans the eggs for the
duration and gets aggressive when a cory goes near. The female seems to take
no part. Most of the eggs hatch but I suspect most of the fry are eaten by
the parents. They are not strictly vegitarian - mine love frozen bloodworm.
The survivers are now over an inch long. Have you bogwood in the tank ? They
love grazing on it. Best wishes.. Ken.
