Anyone identify this weed/fungus? !Speedy Gonzales! 09-26-2006

In the last week this white fungus has developed on my bogwood and in a
couple of other places,

http://www.edinburghcam.myby.co.uk/images/dscf1815.jpg/l

I have a 125L tank, 9 months old, and I change around 35-40L a week.
Readings are
Nitrate - somewhere between 25 and 50mg/l
Nitrite - less than 1 mg
GH - greater than 6°d, less than 10°d
KH -3°d
PH - 7.2

The tank has Fluval 3 plus underwater filter which is suitable for up to
130L and also an airstone.

Stock wise, I have various plants(established) 2 clown loaches, 1 Siamese
fighting fish, 4 neons, 7 glowlights, a few young mollies and 5 guppies +
fry. I'm conscious of overstocking so am keeping an eye on the amount of fry
that survives the first week or so!

I'm not sure if my water changes are to blame, too much too little? I tend
to do it once a week(Sunday). Am also wondering if I'm adding the water
conditioner correctly, just now I add only enough for the amount of water
I'm changing, is this correct?

Any ideas what this white stuff is then?

How long has the wood been in the tank? Bogwood sometimes gets a cotton wool
type growth and I found my ancistrus used to relish it. It is just spores
that have settled on the wood and are generally harmless. If you don't have
any ancistrus, you can remove the wood and rinse it with a new toothbrush
under the hot tap.

I have had the wood in the tank since I set it up 9 months ago. I have had
to clean it once when I had an algae problem and it was covered in green
slime!

I've seen something similar on my earlier bits of bogwood. I cleaned it up,
it came back, I cleaned it up, it came back, I cleaned it up... it hasn't
reappeared... :)

What's the source of your bogwood?

I bought it from my LFS, a small independent who has been very
useful/reliable in the past?
