Hi,
I have a tank without any filter or heater, where I keep goldfish. I
simply change the water once a week and that's it.
I am bored with just goldfish in there, so can i get any other cold
water fish that's tropical? My local pet shop said to go for Koi's but
I want something else, as I don't like Koi's. So what are my options?
Ta,

There's always the White Cloud mountain minnow, these can cope with low
temperatures but I'm not sure if your goldfish will eat them since their so
small.

You really do need a filter, even with Goldfish, unless your stocking
level is incredibly low.
Avoid Koi in a tank anyway - they will soon out grow it. They will also
need lots of filtration.
Most cold water species are restricted now, though some are available from
licensed dealers.
You'd be best looking at the species which are not truly hardy, but which
will survive in an un-heated tank indoors. White Cloud Mountain Minnows
and Pseudogastromyzon (Chinese sucking loach/Chinese zebra loach) come to
mind.

Hi,
Have to agree with Roger you do really need a filter in your tank , as it
helps keep the fish healthy by getting rid of waste products, do you use
any tap water conditioner in your water change ? as tap water usually
contains chlorine which irritates the fishes gills,.
As for fish depends really on size of your Tank, but there are some places
you can buy Golden Tench Green Tench or more Fancy Goldfish like Lionhead,
Fantail , Bubble eye, Koi are nice but they do grow to a very large size, I
would not class Koi as Tropical , White Cloud Mountain Minnows will
tolerate a low temperature so long as water is well aerated as it mimics
the natural habitat where they come from in the wild,
Sorry if this is a bit long but hope it helps, a nice small filter isone
called Penplax and its not that expensivebut you would also need a small
air pump to run it so depending on where you buy it you are looking at
around a £10 outlay for happy fish .
Regards
Andy

All and good pointers there, guys.
Thanx a bunch. I love the cloud white mountain minnows, they are small
and cute. I only keep two small gold fishes at most, that's as far as I
dare go to avoid overcrowding. Still, I'll look to get a filter soon
