The temp in my aquarium reached 81c today, its normally stays at 80c, at the
lowest setting on my heater, which I think is due to fitting reflectors for
the lights.

Anyway I'm guessing its going to keep getting hotter as it was 81c in my
flat today and I'm wondering if there are any way's to cool it. I'm going to
turn of the heater of soon, but could it still get to hot!

cheers
Scott

You don't need to turn off the heater - the thermostat does that for you!

Are right, I wasn't shore. Does anyone know why it use to stay at 76c on the
center setting all the time, but then went up to 82c. I think it was after
fitting reflectors. shouldn't the thermostat sort that out?

The heater I'm using came with my juwel vision aquarium. I have had two and
both have done it.

cheers
Scott

Ahh, you obviously used Dr Who's Tardis to buy those reverse cooling
heaters they developed in 2047 :-)

Are you hot ? Is your central heating on ? Get the idea ?

Just lift the flaps on the tank, or take the top off and gently let a
fan blow air over the surface...... that's all, no ice cubes, not iced
water, no liquid nitrogen :-)

I posted on this subject on rec.aquaria.freshwater.misc and got quite a lot
of useful suggestions.

My tanks are all hovering around 30C - some above and some below - this is
the ambient air temp in the house at the moment. And sadly I have lost some
fish because of this - mainly due to a stuck thermostat (but another also,
perhaps two, down to temp) - the heaters just don't come on at the moment.

One thing to remember is that the oxygenation levels will go down the warmer
the water is - so air bricks are a must. Personally I would also steer clear
of CO2 units.

I was also advised by my local LFS not to try to force the temps down too
quickly as the shock of a sudden temperature change would be more harmful
than the high temps themselves.

At present, all of the tank lids are open a little. We're trying to get as
much air circulation as possible, Air bricks are going into the tanks that
don't have them and lights are on for the minimum amount of time.

We're going to set going some more fans - for our comfort as well as the
fish - in order to try and bring down the ambient air temp. I'm also toying
with another suggestion I have been given which is rigging something up with
computer fans and putting them into the tank hoods to improve the air
circulation.

Hope some of this helps
Gill
