HI folks

I have been unlucky enough to be the victim of pond equipment theft
recently. The pond has been around for 4 years, but this year I decided to
put a pump and filter onto it so I could see the fish!! The b*stards came in
overnight, removed all the pipework and dug out my gravity fed filter from
the rockery. They then removed the Oase Nautilus pump I had, painstakingly
chased all the wiring back to the plug socket and wandered off into the
moonlight!! Luckily the old insurance covered it, but I am still being stung
with a large excess.

I have now purchased a Hozelock Titan 3000 pump, mainly because it is still
relatively low on power consumption and a Oase Filtoclear 6000. My question
is, how do I secure these items so the f*ckwits in the neighbourhood can't
pinch the stuff again? The filter is a pressurised system (thought i'd give
it a go) and needs to be dug into the garden again, this time in the flower
beds. I have a small fountain pump which is operating my frog at the moment.
I have since used tie wraps to secure the cable to my fence panels, but I
know that won't stop a determined thief. I could perhaps run the cable
underground, but if it is protected (as it should be) it would be possible
just to snip the plug and pull the cable through.

Any suggestions are greatly received.

Mark

Well, while I can't advise ons ecuring it, when you do bury i you might want
to attach one of the magnetic wail things you use on doors and windows
underneath it?

It comes in two bits of plastic, one part you'd attach to the pump and the
other to the ground below it. If they are seperated then a very high pitched
beeping begins which scares the shit out of most people when not expecting
it and will wake you up if nearby. They cost about £3 each, and whilst meant
for windows and doors, they could quite happily be incorporated into your
burial task...

I have two pumps and bioforce filters one of which I tried to bury.

It's not a great idea as, if the filter is just buried in soil, there will
be times you need to get the water out of there.
This will then soften the soil around it and collapse the hole.
This could affect the alarm in wet weather too ?

I'm currently trying to hide them in shrubs at the back of the pond.
The filter's own weight when filled, along with the branches keep it
upright.

What about one of these motion detector operated hoses ?
They'd certainly give them a fright :-)

Thanks for both replies, I shall consider them. I think though I am going to
bury the cable in concrete near the pond (bagged up of course so I can
retrieve it at a later date). That way, if they cut the cable to get the
pump, they won't have enough to put it in their pond and it will be useless.
Not sure what to do about the filter yet though.

Cheers
