I have a Juwel Vision 180. Juwel filter set ups are pretty good, but any
filter of this type relies on continuous flow to the friendly bacteria
alive.

The powerhead is designed to be run continuously, and it may be that the
daily stop start routine created more wear hence the failure.

It didn't fail - it just needed a tap to get started and I've left it
running continously since my OP. I bought a spare 600L anyway. Thanks to
everyone who replied.
