Hi everyone,
Just bought Elite 350l tank and has filtration system new to me-consists of
Boyu SP 1800 pump in tank which pulls water out into a trough in hood. This
trough has 3 sections and one exit hole for water to recycle back into tank.
At the moment as sold all three sections have the same filtration material,
I think it's called microcotton. My question is should these three sections
have different filter material, and if so, what?

TIA
Denise

Hi Denise,
I looked up the filter but not a lot came up, Iwould check with where
you bought the tank form to see what if any spares are available filter
media wise ,
Other than that the usual filtration stages are ceramic rings or
bioballs in the section where water comes in , usually a sponge of sorts
in the 2nd section to trap particles and the last section is usually
Activated carbon and some filter floss , to polish the water as it goes
back into tank ,
There is a product on the market called " PolyFilter" it says it does all
the jobs of the previously stated parts, its not cheap however.
This link will give info on it .

Hi Andrew
Thanks for this. I'm going back to the supplier today, but I get the
impression that this is either a very new filter setup or a not very popular
one as I had no luck looking it up either. But I definitely agree with you
that there should be different media in there rather than the same in each
section. I will inquire further today - they're usually pretty good.
Cheers
Denise

Hi Denise ,
Yw when i looked them up i found out that they are made in China ,
but they seem to make mainly pond filters, what they have done it seems
is to incorporate a Hang on Back Filter into the lid , seems like a good
way to save space , but time will tell if any thing untoward occurs like
a blockage where does the water go then ?? HOB's usually have a way of
directing the water away back to the tank .

Andy

Did you get any joy Denise???
I have noticed that a lot of the new smaller aquariums for sale are all
going the "filter in the hood " path
