I got one of those jaw drop moments you hope not to get too often. A few
years ago I walked into my passage and wondered what the silver thing
flapping about on the carpet was ? It was a Zebra Danio (they're famous
escape artists) making a break for it :-) Happy ending though, as I
found him in time to pop him back, and he lived another 2 years.
Today I was having breakfast and as I got up from the table I thought I
saw a fish on the floor out of the corner of my eye. I looked down and
there was what looked like a dead Silver Shark lying on the kitchen
floor, about 30 feet from where the tank is. I can only guess he flapped
about and moved himself as I don't have a cat. As I looked at him I saw
a gill move, so I scooped him up and put him back in the tank. For about
an hour he just lay on the surface with his gills going like mad, but
then he seemed a bit better and is now in amongst the weed.
I've had him three years and I never knew they were jumpers ?
Not sure if it's a happy ending yet, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm going to invest in a bit of netting and make an anti jump cover for
the tank.

Is a silver shark the same as a bala shark? If so, I have read that they
are notorious escape artists.

Thats them. Considering a few hours ago he was floating upside down and
gasping he's done quite well. He's now swimming with his friends and
taking an interest in things. He's a good 6 or 7 inches long, and the
gap in the tank cover is quite small..... I guess it's time to get some
netting.
My only worry is his right eye. It looks a bit opaque and I think he
might have damaged it in his bid for freedom.

I had a similar incident with a red tailed shark one day when cleaning the
tank, I had all the fish in a covered bucket but when I went to put the
fish back I took the cover off before carrying it back to the tank.
It took me a good 15 minutes + to catch all the fish and get them back in
the tank. After another 5 minutes of trying to count the fish I realised
one was missing, I turned around to see the red tailed shark lying on the
floor at the other side of the room. I looked at him and he was totally dry
and had no movement so I concluded he was dead. I picked it up and threw it
back in the bucket whilst I tidied up, it sank to the bottom upside down and
lay there. I came back 10 minutes later it was swimming around the bucket.
He must have been out of the water nearly 30 minutes. He's now been renamed
Jesus.
