I have two original Hagen Bio-Life 55 MkIs that use the original steel
shafts that have burnt out last week, although these seem to have
disappeared over the years. I've had both these filters for a very
long time, I've noticed on the Hagen spares available I can replace
with ceramic shaft or steel shaft powerheads?

The ceramic shaft power heads are cheaper, and the shafts can be
replaced, the impellars are also cheaper.

Steel Shaft Powerhead - £16.79 each
Ceramic Powerhead - £10.49 each

I've not got any ceramic impellars so I would have to purchase new
impellars for these as well at a cost of £6.59 each, the existing
impellars may not be damaged - I don't know! But steel shaft impellars
are £8.39 each.

Anyone know what the advantages are? Apart from ceramic shafts can be
replaced and are current. I don't know how long Hagen will be stocking
steel shaft impellars for.
