I keep cold water guppies, but recently some of them has died, the water
was a bit brown but after changing it i lost two of my fish.
Is this to do with changing the water or just old age.
I have a good filter and air pump but the water still goes brown can
any one help.

did you use any tap water conditioner ? is the tank in direct sunlight, ?
does the water smell bad when you change it ? is the tank covered? it
could be one of many things causing the water to go brown but 1st
thought is have you hoovered the gravel to get rid of any surplus food
etc, a build up of detritus will send your ammonia, nitrate & nitrite
through the roof causing severe stress to the fish or even killing them
. are you using an undergravel filter by any chance if so i would
suggest you clear the tank of fish and try to get under the base plate as
the build up of stuff under it can also lead to severe problems for the
fish, i know its a pain to do but it might help solve the brown water ,
Hope this helps
Andy
