Hi All

We have just started an aquarium for our children of (for now) 4
aquatic frogs and 4 giant apple snails, 3 small apple snails. We have
been feeding the frogs bloodworm and the snails cucumber. The tank
water has become incredibly (whitish) cloudy over the last two weeks
since we started with the cucumber - are we overfeeding? how much
should we feed them? We have been feeding three fat rings of cucumber
to the snails per day and it's all being eaten. All the different
chemical levels of the tank are fine as we've rigourously tested. Any
help would be really appreciated...

Thanks in advance

Kt

add the size of the tank and the filtration system even a make model of the
tank as it saves all the guess work in making a reasonable answer

60 litre tank and the filter / heater ( Rena Filstar - model FIL2) came
as a kit with it. The filter (which IS cleaned weekly) shows no sign
of "extra" waste compared to our other unheated fish tank (also using
same dechlorinated water). We have no live plants in yet and before
the introduction of the frogs and snails the water was crystal for a
month. It really is very "white" water...

White water sounds like bacterial bloom, I have no idea how much
waste frogs produce but presumably it could be cycling?

I'm sure you wash your filter media in dechlored water but even
so I would leave it unless the water output is diminished. Let
it build up and get established.

We have started to feed the snails on a more varied diet and the water
has cleared - I found a website for apple snails which revealed they
like peas, green beans and all manner of foods so rotating these with
cucumber seems to be the trick. It's very nice to see them again!

Thanks for your help
