Hi

I find that this tank gets particles building up very easily and looks
mucky, whereas my Tropiquarium stays looking clean and "bits" free.

I think I might need to use a different filter (although I have added an old
fluval internal filter as I thought it might help) and wonder whether to buy
an external filter in addition to the existing internal built in Jewel. The
Eheim filters get good reviews, but I'd like opinions from this group
please. Also does the external filter sit in the cabinet? If so that is OK
as there is space....but no space beside the tank, only below in the
cabinet.

Thanks
Julie

difference.

Thanks

experimented with and left off the white poly pad and it is just as clear -
though you do need to rinse the coarse sponge more frequently. what
substrate do you have and do you hoover?

Yes I hoover. I need to do it much more frequently than the other tank. I
have angels and bristlenoses in the other tank, yet that stays clean. The
"dirty" tank has tetras, rainbows and a couple of very small plecs (much
smaller than the ancistrus' in the other tank) Both are planted and were set
up together when I moved 5 months ago. Same water same regime....apart from
the extra time I give to the Jewel tank.
Substrate is also the same.....mixture of very fine rounded gravel and sand.
