Julie,

The only other things I can think of are :-

1) the pump/powerhead ins't seated in the filter box correctly and thus not
getting the right amount of "suction"
2) the flow return nozzle is pointing in such away that the flow is
restricted round the tank

would any of these be a possibility?

Is you polypad getting really dirty betwenn cleans?

Sky.

The polypad does get dirty, but not that bad.

I have a R180 and the turn over rate is pretty good (the powerhead is 600
l/h) - something seems amiss but I can't really help any further....

Oddly the dirty tank has lower nitrates!

Both zero on ammonia and lowest on nitrites, but the mucky looking tank has
a lower level of nitrate. Also the ph has dropped a bit there too....both
nitrate and ph very high out of the tap here.

Not sure what to do next....all the fish are very healthy....despite my
tendency to overstock a liitle!

Anyone else any suggestions on how to keep the tank clean? I thought a
better filter would help????
