I thought someone started a business like this in the past, and it was
ruled to be cruel. What happened to allow them to be sold again?

I was wondering whether a complaint to the RSPCA was in order. If I
recall correctly, people complained when some American-sourced
miniature (note, I can spell miniature) aquariums were put on sale and
they were banned.

I think those aquariums were recalled because they were death traps. There
was a fault in the electrical system which could give a nasty jolt. From
what I understand, I don't think any of them were imported to the UK,
although with places like ebay, who knows??

I notice the minnokubes come complete with two white cloud mountain minnows,
hardly satisfactory for a shoaling fish!!

Just had a response from Matt Clarke at PFK:
Hope you're well. Aaaargh! Thought we'd seen the last of these
flipping things. They were on sale a few years back I seem to recall. We got
an instruction manual sent to us from a similar product which had some
bizarre suggestions in it, including mentioning that the fish were likely to
die eventually and could be preserved in the tank by replacing the water
with glycerine - quite bizarre.

Thanks for the tip off anyway. I'll see if I can write a news story on this.
Hopefully it will educate some of the uninformed people likely to buy these
that they are not a good idea.
Preserve with glycerine???? Could I get away with trying that on my wife :0)
