Hi, my four Siamese Algae Eaters swim up to the surface and collect a mouth
full of air after when they are active. There gill movement is very rapid
when they are active as well. Does anyone think that it could be a sign that
the oxygen levels in my aquarium are to low?

I had a test kit a while back and it showed that the 02 level was bellow
what it recommended. I tried a juwel diffuser at the time, but it didn't
raise the 02 level.

Thanks
Scott

I have read and been told by my LFS that SAE do need weel oxygeneted water.
Mine showed similar symptons to yours which stopped after I installed an air

I have 5 juwel tanks and the oxygen level is ok. You can add an airstone run
by a seperate airpump and tube, on the left side there is another cutout on
lid on most lids. Which juwel is it? You can also put a higher powerhead on
as well, as more movement increases oxygen, or angle the black outflow tubes
differently.. My vision 260 came with the 1000l/h and I have recently
changed it to the new 1500l/h as my clown loaches like more flow. I have put
a smaller one on rio125, changed it from 600 to 400l/h as my angels don't
like too much flow and they have no problem with oxygen even though the temp
is 82. If the tank is overstocked that may cause a problem too.

Yep, mine never do that & never have done - don't come anywhere near the
surface.
