Hi all,

I am trying to control the ever-growing snail population in my freshwater
tropical aquarium.

My current method is pull out any I can see and drop them in the pond outside.

I am told that clown loaches eat them but mine is either not interested or
unable to keep up.

There are small fish in the tank: platys and tetras so I can't introduce a
large predatory species.

The little rotters compound the issue by breeding and then both of them will
lay eggs.

I suppose ideally I want a species that thrives on snail eggs or an otherwise
harmless water treatment that either kills or stops snails breeding.

Any suggestions?

Rich

I've only ever had one noticeable outbreak of snails, maybe 6 months after I
started my first tropical tank.

Within a month of introducing 2 (relatively small) clown loaches there was
not a snail to be seen and, two years later, I can't actually remember the
last time I even saw a snail. Are you sure yours isn't a vegetarian? ;-)

Regards,

Paul

Sounds like I need to send him/her on a course. Do you know anyone who can
train them? ;-)

Seriously perhaps I'll get it a friend.

Thanks,

Rich

Clown loaches are best kept as a group they tend to be scatterbrained
but are very effective at snail disposal lol.
