I have recently been given some swordtail fry which I am keeping in a
breeding trap which floats in my tank. They've been in there a few weeks
now. My question is, should I be moving them to a larger trap at some point
to enable them to grow, or are they OK as they are? I cannot let them swim
in the tank freely as yet, since the other fish are rather keen to eat them.
The trap they are in presently isn't all that big and I am wondering if that
will hinder their growth at all.

Thanks for advice.

If the other fish in the tank are keen to eat them them the fry are likely
frightened for their lives.
Why not do the job properly and invest in another tank.

Get a small tank and cheap air powered filter and pump.
Heater probably not required this weather.
