Due to users beyond our control, a group of regulars from
rec.aquaria.freshwater.misc created and moved to:
'The Freshwater Aquarium'.
http://groups.google.com/group/The-Freshwater-Aquarium

This is a 'lightly' moderated group, by members who volunteer to act as its
managers. They watch for, and delete any posts which are SPAM, grossly
inappropriate, or of an antisocial behaviour as has been seen in the Usenet
groups lately.

We also have members and managers from alt.aquaria,
alt.aquaria.tropical.fish.hobbist, rec.aquaria.freshwater.plants and
rec.ponds.

This group is open to anyone (new or old to the hobby) interested in
discussions regarding freshwater animals (fish, shrimps, snails etc), plants
and the operation of their set-ups (lighting, filters etc). The Google
interface is a little different, but the company is great.

I've joined a few Google & Yahoo groups and most seem to die of
neglect in a few months. I know the odd cretin can cause problems
but IMHO this isn't the solution.

I agree. While people are happy to carry on "feeding the trolls" it will
continue. That said, the alt.aquaria newsgroup trolls are having a field day
today since the announcement about moving out. It is a bit like the
playground bully forcing their will on everyone else. Ignore them and they
will get fed up and play elsewhere. As for the group? I have joined enough
forums in the past and can't be bothered to join another, especially as I
only drop in now and again.

Please come and look at the posts and the number of members within just
one week....however, the UK group is not carried by a lot of
international newsservers and remains a good place to post...I don't
think most of the trolls actually hang out here...good luck guys and
your opinions are respected...

Hi Gill

I do drop in and take a look every now and again, it is the registering I
can't be bothered with as it is another username and password I have to
remember. I understand why it has been done and look forward to when the
newsgroup is back in action again. TBH, my interests have moved towards the
marine keeping side of things and that is better catered for on the few
forums I am already a member of. That said, I am mindful that we were all
beginners once and am happy to contribute as and when possible.
