Hubby came home with 2 of these the other day - said the were Pictus
catfish. Yeah - sure they are - not! they are currently in quarantine until
I find out what they really are. Photos are not very good because they are
constantly in hiding and on the odd occasions when they do come out, they
swim so fast it's impossible to get a photo.. They do have the barbs of a
catfish. Ugly little critters

Looks like a juvenile "Irridescent shark" or Pangasius hypophthalmus to
me. The good news is they're peaceful. The bad news is they grow to
over 4 feet in the wild and eat anything they can fit in their mouths.
They're quite common in the trade, but I have no idea why.

I agree, I thought it was an iridescent shark( I haven't had fish in twenty
years, except now I just opened a marine tank), which is a common aquarium
fish and is an active swimming fish, and they are pretty cool coimmunity
fish. They do grow a little big if I remember correctly, but they are
harmless and fun to observe. They actually are shaped like some types of sea
sharks. Mike.

I have seen these in some of my LFS's and they are advertised as catfish, I
can't remember what type they say it is.
but then is does look like the shark... interesting, but then thats the
problem with common names, they different where ever you go.

better off sticking to the scientific names, if you know them lol.

It is definatly NOT a pictus though, as they are spotted.

That's certainly what my LFS sells as "Pangasius" catfish.
