would suggest that you dont remove the fluval untill the external is
settled unless of course you use the sponge media to help seed the
bacteria into the external filter but you have to take into account
the fish stock levels and bio load on the filter while its settling in
so constant water tests would be needed to prevent any nasty spikes .
