Hi,

I read an article in Practical Fish Keeping which told of putting a red
light in your aquarium, so that you can see your nocturnal fish, as they
can't see red light.
the article spoke of usinf LEDs (light emitting diodes) but I would have
though these wouldn't be bright enough.

I searched on the net for this information and one suggestion was to add a
red sleeve to the light, but I don't think that would work very well.

An idea I had was spray painting a light red, but this would required a
translucent paint, which I have no idea where to get, and probably has the
possiblity to posion my fish.

What, if anyone does, do you use as a red?

Thanks,

§tudz

I have seen coloured plastic wrapped around the tube. Obviously it is quite
a thick plastic because the tube will get quite warm. Something like they
use for spot lights in theatres would be good, although where you would get
it from I don't know. You can also buy coloured fluorescent tubes, although
not for fishkeeping use, you are only wanting it to show your fish off at
night, not for plant growth or anything.

Regards

Mark

I use blue neon cold cathode tubes that you would use for PC, there are some
red ones here

Worked fine for me for about six months now.
